Once again, we are approaching the end of a glorious EPL season. The title is most probably ending up at Stamford Bridge again despite Manchested United relentless pursuit. The gap between the two teams is a huge 9 points. United hopes of a miracle comeback ended when they could only accomplish a draw against Sunderland at Old Trafford. Chelsea only needed a point from their last three matches to clinch the title.
Looking at Chelsea next three fixtures - home match against Man Utd and two away match against Blackburn and Newcastle.
The match against Man Utd had DRAW written all over it. While Blackburn and Newcastle both have an outside chance of qualifying for the UEFA Cup, but that is only if Arsenal slipped up further which is highly impossible.
Having said all this, United will gunning for the second spot for an automatic qualification into the Champions League. Lookin at United next three fixtures, an away match to Stamford Bridge and two home games against Boro and the Addicks. Both Boro and Charlton will have almost nothing to play for while United will have Liverpool hot on their trails. United will have to secure 6 points or rather maximum points in their next three matches.
The third spot will either go to United or Pool, depending on who finishes second. Surprisingly, contest for the fourth spot will go down the wire between Spurs and The Gunners. A 1-1 draw in their last encounter at Highbury simply means, Spurs have the upper hand against their London adversary. A very significant one point advantage!
The teams fixtures
Arsenal: Sunderland (Away), Man City (Away) and Wigan (Home)
Tottenham: Bolton (Home) and West Ham (Away)
Arsenal most probable stumble stone will be at Man City. Even though City will have nothing to play for, they will not want to lose to the Gunners on their home ground. However Arsenal will have to get maximum points and hope that Spurs will slip up. Spurs on the other hand, will face a fiery fiesta when they host Bolton. They will have to win both their games to secure a spot in the Champions League. There is bound to be an exciting fight to the end for this last ticket to Europe most coverted tournament.
The relegation battle will be between Birmingham and Portsmouth.
The team fixtures
Portsmouth (35 pts): Wigan (Away) and Liverpool (Home)
Birmingham (33 pts): Newcastle (Home) and Bolton (Away)
Lookin at their fixtures, anything could happen in this closing stage of the season. Anything less than a WIN for Birmingham against Newcastle will see them playing the Championship next season. It's a must WIN for Birmingham to have any hopes of survival.
My predictions:-
Top 5: 1st Chelsea, 2nd Manchester United, 3rd Liverpool 4th Arsenal, 5th Tottenham
Bottom 3: 20th Sunderland (Confirmed), 19th West Brom, 18th Birmingham
